# German Audio Transcriptionist – Vienna (AI Training) ## About the Role What if your ability to hear every word — even through background noise, overlapping speakers, and fast-paced dialogue — could directly shape how AI understands spoken German? We're looking for detail-oriented transcriptionists in the Vienna area to produce accurate, high-quality transcriptions of German-language audio, helping build the datasets that teach AI systems how real people speak. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role perfect for native Austrian German speakers, as well as speakers of standard German residing in Vienna. No prior AI experience required — just exceptional listening skills, strong written German, and a methodical work ethic. - **Organization**: Alignerr - **Type**: Hourly Contract - **Location**: Remote (Vienna, Austria) - **Commitment**: 10–40 hours/week ## What You'll Do * Listen to German-language audio recordings and produce precise, verbatim transcriptions * Handle challenging audio conditions — including crosstalk, filled pauses ("ähm," "hmm," "na ja"), background noise, and multiple simultaneous speakers * Accurately identify and distinguish between different speakers throughout recordings * Follow detailed style and formatting guidelines with consistency and precision * Apply transcription conventions for non-verbal sounds, incomplete utterances, and other spoken-language phenomena * Maintain high quality and accuracy standards across large volumes of audio * Work independently and asynchronously on task-based assignments at your own pace ## Who You Are * Native or near-native fluency in German — Austrian German speakers especially welcome * Exceptional listening skills with the ability to parse difficult or noisy audio * Highly detail-oriented with a methodical, patient approach to repetitive tasks * Comfortable following and consistently applying detailed style guides and formatting rules * Strong written German skills — spelling, punctuation, and grammar come naturally to you * Self-motivated and reliable when working independently without direct supervision * Comfortable using web-based tools and platforms ## Nice to Have * Professional experience in transcription, court reporting (Protokollführung), or stenography * Background in subtitling, closed-captioning, or media post-production * Linguistics training or academic background in German language studies * Prior experience with annotation platforms or data labeling workflows * Familiarity with transcription software or audio editing tools * Awareness of Austrian German idioms, colloquialisms, and regional dialect patterns ## Why Join Us * Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs * Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you * Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based work * Contribute to AI development that directly improves how technology understands spoken German * Sharpen your transcription and linguistic skills on diverse, real-world audio * Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
